Dear Assemblyman House:
As [a citizen dedicated to ... or a member of ...] I am dedicated to protecting children from the harmful effects of obscenity and pornography. That is why I am writing in strong support of Assembly Bill 1035.
Since 1982 California has aggressively
pursued these community predators through the "California
Control of Profits of Organized Crime Act." In 1984 Congress
took the matter a step further by requiring the forfeiture of
any interest in, and assets deriving from, child pornography
and obscenity. It is time for California law to catch up.
Federal and state law enforcement agencies have used these laws
fairly and effectively to combat this very destructive criminal
activity. Since their enactment the state and federal prosecutors
have successfully closed down some of the nations largest distributors
of child pornography and obscenity.
Mr. House, your legislation provides both an incentive for difficult prosecutions, and does something eliminate the problem. Many other states have already adopted, or are in the process of debating, similar laws.
We will support Assembly Bill 1035 when it comes before the Public Safety Committee for consideration.
Sincerely,
[Your name, et cetera]
